從無(wú)序的復(fù)雜系統(tǒng)中發(fā)現(xiàn)隱藏規(guī)律和模式

打破復(fù)制對(duì)稱

彼得·揚(yáng),加州大學(xué)圣克魯斯分校的物理學(xué)教授表示,旋轉(zhuǎn)玻璃背后的數(shù)學(xué)細(xì)節(jié)“非常奇怪”。將均場(chǎng)理論應(yīng)用于旋轉(zhuǎn)玻璃首先需要?jiǎng)?chuàng)建系統(tǒng)的“副本”,然后以某種方式將這些副本分成組,以利用它們之間的一些數(shù)學(xué)對(duì)稱性。最初應(yīng)用均場(chǎng)理論到旋轉(zhuǎn)玻璃中,是以一種簡(jiǎn)單的方式“打破對(duì)稱”,得到一個(gè)單一的序參量,但這種方法導(dǎo)致了不一致的結(jié)果。

臨界的鳥(niǎo)群與復(fù)雜系統(tǒng)

帕里西曾經(jīng)與 Cavagna 等人合作,對(duì)鳥(niǎo)群的運(yùn)動(dòng)進(jìn)行了長(zhǎng)期的觀察,他們用兩個(gè)攝像機(jī)拍攝同一個(gè)鳥(niǎo)群,從而重建出鳥(niǎo)運(yùn)動(dòng)的三維坐標(biāo),然后從這樣一個(gè) 3D 的影片中算出來(lái)各個(gè)時(shí)刻,群體中的各只鳥(niǎo)分別處在怎樣的位置,又根據(jù)相鄰各幀畫(huà)面,計(jì)算出鳥(niǎo)的速度,從這樣的視頻中可以得到很多有用的信息。他們用統(tǒng)計(jì)物理方法計(jì)算分析了數(shù)十萬(wàn)只鳥(niǎo)如何形成一個(gè)整體。對(duì)一個(gè)鳥(niǎo)群而言,最智能的狀態(tài)應(yīng)該是某種“團(tuán)結(jié)緊張”的狀態(tài)。這種狀態(tài)恰好處在“有序”與“無(wú)序”之間,類似于相變的臨界點(diǎn)處,此時(shí),一個(gè)群體既能保持其穩(wěn)定性,又能保證個(gè)體的信息在群體中有效地傳遞。

臨界的特征對(duì)生物群體來(lái)說(shuō)有著重要的意義,在草原上遷徙的羊群,天空中飛翔的鳥(niǎo)群,河流中洄游的魚(yú)群都常常會(huì)遇到相似的問(wèn)題,因?yàn)椴妒痴呖赡軙?huì)從各個(gè)方向靠近來(lái)捕獵群體中的某些個(gè)體,甚至有的時(shí)候捕食者也會(huì)展開(kāi)群體的攻勢(shì)。這時(shí)候,這些動(dòng)物們會(huì)需要快速做出反應(yīng),比如鳥(niǎo)群在空中不斷變換著形狀,羊群突然聚集在一起,或者魚(yú)群組合成一條看起來(lái)更大的魚(yú)的樣子,這種靈活應(yīng)變的能力體現(xiàn)了生物的某種集體智能,這也是簡(jiǎn)單的有序或者無(wú)序態(tài)難以實(shí)現(xiàn)的。

QCD演化理論

1977年,帕里西和 Altarelli一起發(fā)現(xiàn)了核子中的夸克膠子分布的演化方程(又稱DGLAP方程,為獨(dú)立發(fā)現(xiàn)這個(gè)方程的三組工作的五個(gè)人姓氏首字母)。強(qiáng)相互作用的QCD理論中,部分子(夸克和膠子的統(tǒng)稱)的分布函數(shù)隨能標(biāo)和參考能標(biāo)(截?cái)啵┫嚓P(guān),這個(gè)分布函數(shù)是描述深度非彈性散射截面的重要因子。帕里西與Altarelli用簡(jiǎn)潔的微擾場(chǎng)論辦法給出了分布函數(shù)隨能標(biāo)變化的演化方程,是QCD理論與強(qiáng)子實(shí)驗(yàn)中一個(gè)極其重要的結(jié)果。
