謝丹陽，男，安徽省祁門縣人，經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)家。1983年畢業(yè)于武漢大學(xué)，獲得數(shù)學(xué)學(xué)士，1992年在美國芝加哥大學(xué)獲得經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)博士學(xué)位。曾任蒙特利爾大學(xué)助理教授（1991-1993年）、香港科技大學(xué)助理教授（1993-1998年）、副教授（1998年起），以及國際貨幣基金經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)家和高級(jí)經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)家（2000-2004年）。2006年至今任香港科技大學(xué)經(jīng)濟(jì)系教授，2007-2010年擔(dān)任香港科技大學(xué)經(jīng)濟(jì)系主任，2011年5月至2013年7月任香港科技大學(xué)瑞安經(jīng)管中心主任。2013年6月被任命為武漢大學(xué)經(jīng)濟(jì)與管理學(xué)院院長，2014年1月1日全職到任?，F(xiàn)任香港科技大學(xué)工商管理學(xué)院經(jīng)濟(jì)系講座教授，港科大（廣州）社會(huì)樞紐署理院長。

研究方向
其研究領(lǐng)域涉及內(nèi)生增長理論和宏觀經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)。
在歐洲經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)會(huì)的資助下，2000年E-cares在其博士論文中給出了一個(gè)經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)家比較能接受的世界經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)家和研究機(jī)構(gòu)的排名，也給出了世界大學(xué)和經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)家的成績(jī)隨時(shí)間演變的情況，分析了關(guān)于美國大學(xué)和非美國大學(xué)之間的差距。Ecares使用的是E-conlit數(shù)據(jù)庫，這個(gè)數(shù)據(jù)庫索引了世界上650種經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)雜志，組成了比較全面和權(quán)威的“經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)文獻(xiàn)”（中國目前只有一種剛剛被索引的雜志《AnnalsofEco-nomicsandFinance》）。根據(jù)Econlit數(shù)據(jù)庫，1994-1998年間，大約有55000人在經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)文獻(xiàn)上發(fā)表了文章，Ecares對(duì)各種影響排名的因素進(jìn)行了綜合考慮，盡量剔除了一些主觀和隨機(jī)因素帶來的干擾，因此其排名為大多數(shù)經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)家認(rèn)可。
根據(jù)排名，哈佛大學(xué)經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)系在所有11種方法中是經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)文獻(xiàn)最大產(chǎn)出者。芝加哥大學(xué)排在美國哈佛大學(xué)之后。兩者之間的差距很大，哈佛大學(xué)的文章超過17000頁，而芝加哥大學(xué)不足11000頁。賓夕法尼亞、麻省理工學(xué)院和斯坦福大學(xué)位于前五名。加利福尼亞大學(xué)伯克利分校、西北大學(xué)、密歇根州立大學(xué)、耶魯大學(xué)和哥倫比亞大學(xué)是前十名。在排名中第一所非美國大學(xué)是倫敦政治經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)院，排在16名，到第42名是第一個(gè)非英語語言的大學(xué)，荷蘭的提爾堡大學(xué)。前100名的機(jī)構(gòu)中，有64個(gè)機(jī)構(gòu)在美國，22個(gè)在歐洲，加拿大8個(gè)，亞洲2個(gè)，澳大利亞2個(gè)，以色列2個(gè)。實(shí)際上，如果再加上經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)家的排名，就會(huì)發(fā)現(xiàn)美國和加拿大有更多頂尖大學(xué)。
在前1000名經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)家中，有19人來自中國。謝丹陽（Xie,Danyang），排名第794位。
