故事發生在第二次世界大戰期間的英國。湯姆·杰里科是一名出色的密碼破譯專家，他在布蘭徹利公園密碼破譯中心工作，幫助盟軍破解代號為“謎”的密碼。在這里，他與一位女雇員，克萊爾·羅米利發生了一段短暫而熾烈的感情?？巳R爾美麗動人，但卻是個謎樣的神秘女子，在她身上似乎隱藏著不少秘密。盡管如此，在破譯中心她還是吸引了大批的追逐者，湯姆僅僅是其中的一個罷了。
