研究方向
從事病原微生物的新功能基因和蛋白質(zhì)組學(xué)研究以及創(chuàng)新藥物和新型冠狀病毒疫苗的開發(fā)。
從事極端微生物和病原微生物的分子生物學(xué)研究，在環(huán)境微生物生物技術(shù)及微生物的生物化學(xué)與分子生物學(xué)領(lǐng)域取得了創(chuàng)新成果。

科研成果
①在美國哈佛大學(xué)醫(yī)學(xué)院學(xué)習(xí)期間，師從美國科學(xué)院院士Charles C. Richardson教授開展T7噬菌體病毒DNA復(fù)制的研究，發(fā)現(xiàn)了病毒的單鏈DNA結(jié)合蛋白C-末端小肽對其DNA聚合酶、DNA解旋酶以及引發(fā)酶等多個復(fù)制關(guān)鍵酶的功能有重要調(diào)控作用，在國際著名雜志JBC上發(fā)表研究論文2篇，有關(guān)研究結(jié)果最近被Nature等雜志引用；
②系統(tǒng)開展了中國西北某地質(zhì)油藏的極端微生物與石油的相互作用研究，發(fā)現(xiàn)了具有重要功能的微生物類群，整合外源優(yōu)勢微生物研制了能夠提高石油采收率的生物技術(shù)，在中國油田首期應(yīng)用獲得了較大經(jīng)濟(jì)效益并有深遠(yuǎn)的應(yīng)用前景，成果在美國的油氣雜志作為焦點(diǎn)（Focus）論文發(fā)表；
③通過開展分離自云南省的具有我國資源特色的極端嗜酸熱古菌研究，成功從高溫微生物中克隆了硫氧化還原酶基因并首次在大腸桿菌中高效表達(dá)了熱穩(wěn)定性的酶，結(jié)果在歐美核心期刊發(fā)表研究論文3篇，獲得國家授權(quán)發(fā)明專利2項(xiàng)，有關(guān)研究最近被Science等雜志引用。

近年來共發(fā)表SCI論文三十多篇，EI收錄論文3篇，獲得國家授權(quán)發(fā)明專利2項(xiàng)。以主要身份參與了美國國家衛(wèi)生研究院（NIH）項(xiàng)目、歐共體項(xiàng)目、國家自然科學(xué)基金重點(diǎn)項(xiàng)目，科技部重大專項(xiàng)，以及國際合作項(xiàng)目等課題的研究。目前主持國家自然科學(xué)基金，湖北省青年杰出人才基金，教育部留學(xué)回國基金，華中農(nóng)業(yè)大學(xué)高層次引進(jìn)人才啟動基金等項(xiàng)目的研究。
現(xiàn)主持6項(xiàng)國家及省部級科研課題，2006年入選教育部新世紀(jì)優(yōu)秀人才資助計劃。2010年 獲國家杰出青年科學(xué)基金 資助。
