1985～1989年，華東師范大學(xué)大學(xué)地理系，地貌與第四紀(jì)地質(zhì)專業(yè)，學(xué)士；
1989～1992年，中國科學(xué)院古脊椎動物與古人類研究所，地層與古生物專業(yè)，碩士學(xué)位；
1996～2002年，賓夕法尼亞大學(xué)地球與環(huán)境科學(xué)系，地層與古生物專業(yè)，博士學(xué)位。
1992～1996年，中國科學(xué)院古脊椎動物與古人類研究所，實習(xí)/助理研究員；

學(xué)術(shù)成就
自1992年起，在甘肅省陸續(xù)進(jìn)行了5個夏季的野外發(fā)掘工作。研究命名了三屬新恐龍：馬鬃龍，戈壁巨龍屬和黎明角龍。在全面總結(jié)馬鬃山恐龍組合基礎(chǔ)上，提出它代表了東亞早白堊世鸚鵡嘴龍恐龍動物群進(jìn)化的一個新階段。馬鬃山恐龍組合的各分子都較遼西熱河生物群中的相關(guān)分子進(jìn)步。同時，根據(jù)對馬鬃山新發(fā)現(xiàn)的角龍下目和鴨嘴龍科恐龍系統(tǒng)發(fā)育關(guān)系的研究表明東亞是這兩類恐龍的發(fā)源地。
鸚鵡嘴龍類為東亞早白堊世所特有。研究了遼西義縣組陸家屯層中的鸚鵡嘴龍類化石，根據(jù)其頭骨特征確定為一幼年個體并代表鸚鵡嘴龍類一新屬，紅山龍。隨后又研究了紅山龍一成年個體頭骨，發(fā)現(xiàn)許多與個體發(fā)育相關(guān)的特征變化，為進(jìn)一步研究鸚鵡嘴龍類的系統(tǒng)發(fā)育關(guān)系提供了新了依據(jù)。
新角龍類是白堊紀(jì)陸地生態(tài)系統(tǒng)中僅次于鴨嘴龍類的一類植食性恐龍，而基干新角龍類主要發(fā)現(xiàn)于亞洲的白堊紀(jì)。申請人對甘肅省、內(nèi)蒙古自治區(qū)、遼西省和北美發(fā)現(xiàn)的基干新角龍類做了較系統(tǒng)的研究。在分支系統(tǒng)學(xué)分析基礎(chǔ)之上，發(fā)現(xiàn)北美已知新角龍類自成一單系類群，是亞洲原角龍科的姊妹群，而它們的共同祖先則在亞洲的早白堊世。這一發(fā)現(xiàn)也對新角龍類的古地理遷徙做出了最簡約的解釋，即它們起源于亞洲，而其中一支遷徙到北美后再也沒有返回。
恐龍包括鳥臀類和蜥臀類兩大類。鳥臀類恐龍又包括了劍龍屬、甲龍、腫頭龍、角龍屬和鴨嘴龍等類群。而鴨嘴龍是其中最為繁盛的一支，是晚白堊世陸地生態(tài)系統(tǒng)中最主要的植食者。對它的起源和早期進(jìn)化的研究一直是恐龍研究中的熱點。主要基于對發(fā)現(xiàn)于中國西北馬鬃山和蘭州盆地新材料的研究，并結(jié)合對全球主要代表分子的對比，通過分支系統(tǒng)學(xué)分析發(fā)現(xiàn)早期鴨嘴龍及其近親主要發(fā)現(xiàn)于東亞。因此，鴨嘴龍科恐龍很可能起源于東亞的白堊紀(jì)。
最早的鳥類發(fā)現(xiàn)于晚侏羅世，而其第一次輻射發(fā)生在早白堊世。這時的鳥以反鳥類為主，已被發(fā)現(xiàn)于我國遼西熱河生物群中的大量化石所證明。而今鳥類（包括現(xiàn)生鳥類）也起源于白堊紀(jì)，但其化石材料較反鳥類極為稀少。因此，對今鳥類的起源和早期演化的研究是當(dāng)今國際科學(xué)界一直關(guān)注的重大科學(xué)問題之一。
2006年6月16日，美國《科學(xué)》雜志發(fā)表題為《中國西北早白堊世兩棲型今鳥類化石》的文章，是這一研究領(lǐng)域中取得的一次重大進(jìn)展。通過對近兩年來發(fā)現(xiàn)于我國甘肅省酒泉市昌馬盆地早白堊世地層中保存的大量精美甘肅鳥化石的研究發(fā)現(xiàn)：1)甘肅鳥是已知最早的今鳥類化石；2)以甘肅鳥為主的鳥化石群是已知最早的今鳥類主導(dǎo)的鳥化石群；3)現(xiàn)生鳥類很可能起源于水棲生境。2006年6月16日，美國《科學(xué)》雜志發(fā)表了這一成果。
2023年3月，英國學(xué)術(shù)期刊《歷史生物學(xué)》刊登了由中國科學(xué)院古脊椎動物和古人類研究所張澤川、尤海魯，以及祿豐市自然資源局恐龍化石保護(hù)研究中心王濤共同研究撰寫的論文，系統(tǒng)地介紹了三疊中國龍的特征，并證實三疊中國龍是一個獨立恐龍種。
