孫朝奮，1952年出生。1974年畢業(yè)上海華東師范大學(xué)外語系英語專業(yè)。1983年至1984年在美國俄勒岡州立大學(xué)從事語言學(xué)專業(yè)學(xué)習(xí)，獲得語言學(xué)碩士學(xué)位。1984年至1988年在美國康奈爾大學(xué)從事語言學(xué)專業(yè)學(xué)習(xí)，獲得語言學(xué)博士學(xué)位。研究興趣主要在漢語語法化、話語分析、和語言類型學(xué)。亞洲語言文學(xué)系主任及東亞研究中心主任，北京語言大學(xué)長江學(xué)者，斯坦福大學(xué)亞洲語言文學(xué)系教授。
工作經(jīng)歷
1988 年至1990年在香港理工大學(xué)應(yīng)用語言學(xué)系任高級(jí)講師；
1990年至1991年在美國威斯康星大學(xué)麥迪遜市分校亞洲語言文學(xué)系任助理教授；
1991年至今在美國斯坦福大學(xué)亞洲語言學(xué)系任教授及漢語項(xiàng)目協(xié)調(diào)員；
2000年至2003年任斯坦福大學(xué)亞洲語言文學(xué)系主任；
2003年至2004年任斯坦福大學(xué)人文社會(huì)科學(xué)中心研究員；
2006年至今任斯坦福大學(xué)東亞研究中心主任；
2008年至今任斯坦福大學(xué)亞洲語言文學(xué)系主任。

孫朝奮教授是學(xué)界公認(rèn)的當(dāng)代國際知名的漢語語言學(xué)家。
他在歷史語言學(xué)、功能語言學(xué) 和語言類型學(xué)等領(lǐng)域多有建樹，尤其是在漢語歷史語言學(xué)和漢語語法化研究方面有突出貢獻(xiàn)，在國際漢語學(xué)界產(chǎn)生了深遠(yuǎn)的影響。
他在國外長期從事漢語作為第二語言教學(xué)工作，在理論與實(shí)踐層面作了很多研究和探索，積累了豐富的經(jīng)驗(yàn)，并出版了許多有影響的論著。
