創作背景
2013年9月3日，Gaga在Twitter上發起兩個投票，讓粉絲們決定《ARTPOP》的第二支發行單曲。第一個投票提供《manicure》和《Sexxx Dreams》兩個選擇，而第二個投票則提供了《Aura》和《Swine》兩個選擇，但最終這四首曲目都未被正式發行作為單曲。
2013年9月20日，Gaga發推稱專輯第二支單曲將于專輯《ARTPOP》發行之前發行，并表示想選擇一首完全代表“我”的歌曲。
2013年10月10日，Gaga在Twitter上宣布《Venus》為專輯《ARTPOP》第二支單曲，并于2013年10月27日發布。
10月13日，Gaga在Twitter上透露正在拍攝《Venus》的音樂錄像帶，由露絲·霍格本（Ruth Hogben）導演。由于原定宣傳單曲《Do What U Want》獲得意想不到的商業成功，《Venus》被改為專輯首支宣傳單曲，《Do What U Want》最終成為第二支單曲。
2013年10月25日，Gaga發布了歌曲的三張單曲封面，都由攝影師Steven Klein拍攝。
