孟興民,男,1963年9月出生,1984年畢業于西安地質學院地質系,獲得理學學士,1998年畢業于英國倫敦大學皇家霍洛威學院地理系,獲得理學博士學位。2010年4月被任命為蘭州大學西部環境與氣候變化研究院院長,現為蘭州大學資源環境學院黨委書記。

教育背景
孟興民于1984年畢業于西安地質學院地質系,獲得理學學士學位。1998年,他在英國倫敦大學倫敦大學皇家霍洛威學院學院地理系完成了學業,獲得了理學博士學位。
職業生涯
孟興民的職業生涯始于1984年至1985年間,擔任西安地質學院地質系的助教。隨后,他在甘肅省科學院地質自然災害防治研究所擔任研究助理和助理研究員,專注于滑坡的研究與防治工作。1991年至1992年,他在英國萊斯特大學地理系繼續開展相關研究。1992年至1997年,他在英國倫敦大學皇家霍洛威學院地理系擔任研究員,期間主要研究中國的黃土滑坡、濕陷、氣候變遷以及風塵環境等問題。自1997年起,孟興民在該校地理系擔任地理信息系統主管,負責教學和科研工作。2008年,孟興民被聘為蘭州大學萃英特聘教授,開始在中國內地的工作。
主要成就
