生物多樣性（性狀、分布、關系）格局及其進化和生態機制：研究對象涉及蚜蟲、青藏高原-喜馬拉雅山脈地區、及其他。

目前主要關注：1）青藏高原和喜馬拉雅地區的生物地理格局和區系演化；2）上蚜類間斷分布格局演化及物種分化；3）蚜蟲類高級階元系統發育關系（輻射演化的驗證）及關鍵生物學性狀的演化；4）蚜蟲及其初級內共生細菌（Buchnera）系統發育關系；5）大豆蚜群體遺傳學及其生物學的分子基礎。
我還對一些普遍關注的問題有興趣，比如生物多樣性數據共享。我們在Trends in Ecology & Evolution發表文章提議期刊和多樣性數據庫采用聯合數據保存政策，對于期刊和數據庫是雙贏策略，并將是一個在數據數量和質量上可持續的方法。該建議引起國際同行的關注和討論。
