吳曉剛，江蘇鎮江（丹徒區）人。現任香港科技大學社會科學部教授，應用社會經濟研究中心主任。1987 年以全國高等學校統一招生考試江蘇省文科總分第3 名的優異成績考入中國人民大學社會學系，1991 年獲法學學士，同年進入北京大學社會學系攻讀碩士學位。1994 進入上海市人民政府研究室，從事市長文稿和政府工作報告的起草工作。1996 年赴美國洛杉磯加利福尼亞大學（UCLA）留學，2001 年獲社會學博士學位。2001 到2003 年任密歇根大學社會研究院人口研究中心 Mellon 博士后研究員，社會學兼任講師。他自2003 年起在香港科技大學社會科學部任教，2008年升任副教授， 2011年升任正教授。
人物簡介
吳曉剛的研究領域包括社會分層與流動，經濟社會學，政治社會學，和定量研究方法。他的文章發表于《美國社會學評論》American Sociological Review 、《美國社會學刊》American Journal of Sociology、《社會力》Social Forces、《人口學》Demography，以及《中國研究季刊》China Quarterly。他2006 年獲得美國國家教育學院（National Academy of Education/Spencer 基金會）的博士后研究基金，并以發表于《社會力》的研究論文“共產黨干部與市場機會”獲美國社會學會亞洲/亞裔美國人研究最佳論文獎。2007 年以“精辟數據研究中國社會”獲美國社會學亞洲人/亞裔美國人“青年學人”獎（the Asian and Asian American Early Career Award）。吳曉剛的研究課題受到美國Andrew Mellon 基金會、Spencer 基金會、香港特區政府研究資助局和臺灣蔣經國國際交流基金會的資助。他主持的一項關于香港特別行政區社會狀況的調查，是第一批獲得香港政府中央政策組公共政策研究基金資助的大型研究項目。
委，China Review 的執行編委，英文SSCI 期刊Chinese Sociological Review。他也是美國社會學會亞美分會的理事和北美華人社會學會的理事。
2020年，秋季學期加入上海紐約大學，出任御風全球社會科學講席教授、應用社會經濟研究中心（CASER）主任，同時擔任紐約大學社會學教授。
