張元動，男，1987年畢業于長春地質學院地質系，1987、1993年在中國科學院南京地質古生物研究所分別獲博士學位，后留所工作。1994年任副研究員，1998年12月起任研究員，2001年起任博士生導師。現任中國科學院南京地質古生物研究所研究員。
簡歷
近年來訪問加拿大、英國、德國、瑞典、挪威、阿根廷等國，與多國學者有密切的合作研究。1996-1997年在西安大略大學地球科學系訪問，2000-2002年在德國柏林工業大學應用地球科學系訪問（馬普學者）。主要從事早古生代地層及棒形孔筆石動物研究，在奧陶系全球界線層型、奧陶紀泥盆紀筆石系統學研究、筆石動物微細結構、奧陶紀生物大輻射等方面有突出成果，是我國第一個‘金釘子’—奧陶系達瑞威爾階全球界線層型的第一研究骨干。
現任國際奧陶系分會通訊委員、國際志留系分會通訊委員、國際筆石工作組組織委員、《地層學雜志》副主編、《古生物學報》和《中國古生物志》編委等職。目前主持國家973項目課題“早古生代海洋動物群的形成與早期演化”、國家自然科學基金重點項目“奧陶紀生物大輻射的型式、過程和機制研究—以華南為例證”、中國科學院創新工程方向性項目“中國古生代重要層段綜合地層學及精細對比研究”及中石化海相地層前瞻性項目“中國早古生代海相地層對比”等項目。迄今為止已發表論文60余篇，其中SCI論文15篇。
曾獲中國科學院院長獎學金優秀獎（1994）、中國科學院自然科學二等獎（1998）、第二屆“江蘇青年科學家獎”（1999）、“中國科學院優秀博士后”（1999）、江蘇省有突出貢獻的中青年專家（2004）、中國地質學會“中國地質學會青年地質科技獎”（2005）等。
