王子絕對是自從上世紀80年代之后，在世界流行音樂界涌現出的極少有的多才多藝的流行音樂家中最耀眼的一位，被稱為“明尼阿波利斯之聲”。在整個80年代，Prince與 Stevie Wonder，Michael Jackson一并是最著名的流行音樂家。Prince是個多才多藝的藝人，音樂天才，音樂全才，他精通吉他，貝斯，鍵盤，鼓的演奏，并且還能夠使用其它許多種流行樂器，以至于有人說他一個人就可以成為一支樂隊，在錄音室里，他一個人就足以完成一整張專輯的錄制。此外王子的多才還表現在他對于不同中音樂風格的把握上，他曾經先后融合過包括瘋克音樂(Funk)，民俗音樂，流行音樂，舞曲，搖滾，甚至是硬搖滾樂，并且這些作品幾乎無一例外的獲得了各界的高度評價。Prince創作與演唱能力俱佳，在他所表演的音樂作品中絕大多數都是由他親自完成創作的，他還經常為其他許多著名的流行歌星創作單曲，而Prince運用身體進行表演的能力更是與Michael Jackson一并成為了后生音樂人極難逾越的一個高峰。
