寶拉·福克斯1923年4月22日出生于紐約。她的父親，保羅·賀維·福克斯（Paul Hervey Fox），是電影劇本作家，母親愛(ài)爾西·德·索拉·福克斯（Elsie De Sola Fox）來(lái)自古巴。由于父母對(duì)她的出生并不期待，她曾被寄養(yǎng)在紐約市的一所孤兒院，后來(lái)被外婆救出并寄養(yǎng)在牧師艾爾伍德·寇寧（Reverend Elwood Corning）家中。
