Mad World是英國樂隊Tears For Fears在1982年創(chuàng)作的早期作品之一，由Roland Orzabal創(chuàng)作和樂隊貝斯手Curt Smith演唱。Mad World是樂隊發(fā)行的第三首單曲也是第一首榜單熱曲。這首歌曲和其B面歌曲《Ideas as Opiates》都收錄在樂隊的首張專輯《The Hurting》中。《Mad World》最初是在Orzabal 19歲時用原聲吉他創(chuàng)作的，受到Duran Duran的《Girls on Film》的啟發(fā)。最初Orzabal試著用自己的聲音演唱，但后來建議由Smith來演唱，結果“突然間聽起來很棒”。歌曲受到Arthur Janov的理論影響，《我夢見自己死去的夢是我有過的最美好的夢》這句歌詞表明，夢到死亡等強烈經(jīng)歷會是釋放緊張的最好方式。
